A savage war of words in the Ranji Trophy culminates to a dramatic quarrel

Jeremy Caroll

Rajat Patidar was blasting out-of-the-park strokes against Arzan Nagwaswalla in the Gujarat-Madhya Pradesh match.

Arzan altered his game strategy and made his leg-side fielding more defensive, which paid off when Rajat Patidar’s poor shot gave Arzan a crucial wicket.

Arzan’s ferocious celebration resulted in an ugly quarrel between the batter and the bowler, with Arzan yelling obscenities at Rajat Patidar, to which Rajat responded with a caustic retort. After the umpire and on-field captain Priyan Panchal interfered, everything was forced to settle down.

Rajat made a fantastic half-century but was caught trying to hit another six in Arzan’s over after previously hitting two sixes.
