Rohit Sharma is being showered with praises for tactically sound captaincy but has been seen out of form in the recently concluded limited over series against West Indies followed by Sri Lanka. The batsman hasn’t shown much of an impact while opening the batting but has stamped 12 consecutive wins while leading Team India after bagging a full-time captaincy in all three formats. In the three-match series against Sr Lanka, the hitman only managed to score 44, 1, 5, respectively. Citing the same, former team India selector has expressed his concern for Rohit Sharma’s depleting runs in batting. “Rohit Sharma is in the XI because of his batting. Captaincy is an additional responsibility. He should not lose focus with regard to batting. A lot of times we have seen that captains are not able to perform as well in their primary skill. This should not happen,” said Karim while speaking at Khalneeti.
He even opined that it is just an initial phase of Rohit Sharma while leading the team. “This is just the starting phase for Rohit Sharma. He will gradually realize how important his runs are for the team. His performance will be crucial in Australia (during the T20 World Cup), where the grounds are big and the opposition has top-quality bowlers. So yes, Rohit Sharma needs to work on this area,” concluded Saba Karim.
