Hardik Pandya, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, demoted in central contracts

Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane, the test specialists, have been demoted to Grade B from Grade A, which reduces the annual income from 5 Crore to 3 Crore.

According to a report by Times of India, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane, two of the test specialist batsmen, have looked cold while scoring runs in the test matches, so far. The duo has been a mainstay of the Indian test side but are struggling with poor form since the previous world test championship. Their dipping performance has also pressed the Indian side to move into transition mode where youngsters are being considered to replace the two players. The likes of Shubhman Gill are being considered fit to replace Pujara while there is no speculation floating for the replacement of Rahane, who recently lost his place from the squad.

According to the information, Hardik Pandya, too, has moved down from Grade A to Grade B. The allrounder has been absent from the side ever since the team poorly performed in the earlier T20 World cup. In a series of notable demotions, Umesh Yadav and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, too, have moved down to Grade C.  The likes of Shreyas Iyer, Mohammad Siraj, and Axar Patel, have, however, bagged a Grade B contract while Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah, have retained Grade A+.

The likes of Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, KL Rahul, Mohammad Shami, and veteran spinner, R Ashwin, have stayed in Grade A.
