Jasprit Bumrah’s new role is a hint of team India’s future

India will face Sri Lanka, in which Bumrah is making a comeback and has been named Vice-Captain for the forthcoming home series.

Jasprit Bumrah’s importance in the decision-making list is an opportunity to invest in a future captain by India’s management team and the BCCI, as Jasprit Bumrah has been selected as India’s vice captain for the next series against Sri Lanka.

Rohit has undoubtedly embraced the captaincy position, but his fitness worries and injuries have always been a topic of discussion prior to the Test series in particular. With Virat Kohli stepping down as Test captain, Jasprit Bumrah has a chance to become India’s next captain and lead the squad in the absence of Rohit Sharma.

Captaincy by a bowler has always been a controversial decision, since the Indian team has usually preferred a batsman or batting all-rounder to lead the squad. With Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul having leadership experience and being on the continuous squad list, Indian management didn’t consider their options.

While Jasprit Bumrah’s extensive experience may aid him in leading the squad in Rohit’s absence, it has to be seen whether he is capable of doing so.
