IPL 2022: Hardik Pandya will lead an IPL team for the first time in his career after being appointed as the captain, of the newly formed Ahmedabad franchise. The all-rounder was appointed as the captain of the team for their inaugural season in the cash-rich league.
The franchise owner CVC Capitals, picked Hardik Pandya for a whopping amount of Rs 15 crore. They also bought in the Afganistan superstar Rashid Khan for the same amount. India’s young batter Shubman Gill, will also be seen playing for the Ahmedabad after being bought for 8 crore.
While ahead of the IPL 2022 auction, Hardik has revealed what he learned from all the three and will look to incorporate in his captaincy style. “From Virat, I will pick his aggression and passion, his energy which is tremendous. From Mahi bhai it’s the composure, calmness, remaining same in every situation, trying to see what new things he can add,” Hardik said on Tuesday during media interaction facilitated by the Ahmedabad franchise on Saturday.
“…and from Rohit, I would pick the freedom as he lets the player decide what he wants to do. These three qualities if I can pick up, it will be a very good combination,” he further added.
Hardik revealed that captaincy has bought him pressure. But he is currently looking to take his career one step at a time.
“It’s a good start as IPL gives the platform to test myself in the new role as pressure is very similar. Not saying you are expected to win but everyone wants to win.
“It’s a right step to go ahead and eventually get captaincy for your country but you don’t look for that. If it’s supposed to come it will come,” he further said.
The 28-year-old Hardik has has his decent share of injuries over the past two years which earned him massive criticism. But playing on the Indian Premier League (IPL) team can perhaps help him reimpose his position in the national set-up.
