Who will replace Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara in the playing XI?

Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane have been dropped from the Test series against Sri Lanka.

The poor form of two sensational batsmen – Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara, continued and they were ultimately dropped from the only format they are considered in. Both the players are not considered to play the limited format series, and with an announcement of dropping the former Vice-Captain and The Wall – Pujara, India has given a hint of a new era with young players.

The question rises of who can replace the duo for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka, as the top order duo were witnessed being in the playing XI for almost a decade. Team India’s prime choice for the middle-order batsman is the skipper itself Rohit Sharma, along with Shreyas Iyer, who has played just 2 Test games.

India has to trust its opening pair – Mayank Agarwal and Shubman Gill, and the skipper himself have to resist to come out and bat down the order, as India was habituated, watching Rohit bat at number 5 in the Test format. Virat can pull up a sensational form, as the fans await for King’s comeback. Shreyas can be tried out for the middle-order batting, as he can bat consistently in the top order.

It will be exciting to watch if team India can carry on with a consistent batting performance in the top order, in absence of the veteran duo – Rahane and Pujara.
