Following the BCCI’s formal approval of the Ahmedabad franchise on Monday, the two new franchises have been given a deadline of January 22, 5 p.m. to complete the three signings. While Hardik Pandya is expected to be Ahmedabad’s first choice, Lucknow can now name KL Rahul as their new captain. The BCCI had a conference call with the Lucknow and Ahmedabad franchises on Tuesday to advise them on the draught process and set a deadline. The three fresh additions would cost the two franchises a total of Rs 33 crore. They have the option of selecting one uncapped player and one international player. The BCCI has also fixed the salary scales for the three players.
While the BCCI had planned to allow the Indian board two weeks to complete the signing requirements, the Indian board has changed its plans and will now be given ten days. BCCI believes it will be enough for them both. The deadline of January 22 will also assist BCCI in maintaining the February 12-13 Auction dates, assuming no new Covid lockdown or restrictions.
During the conference call, BCCI also notified the franchises that a franchise meeting with all ten clubs will be held before to the IPL auction.
Three first-choice rules – The new teams, on the other hand, are only allowed to recruit one uncapped player and are only allowed to pay more than the mandated amount if they lose that much money from the payroll ceiling of Rs 90 crore.
Salary slabs for the three picks:
Maximum to be spent: Rs 33 Crore
Player 1: Rs 15 Crore
Player 2: Rs 11 Crore
Player 3: Rs 7 Crore
An uncapped player can be paid a maximum of Rs 4 Crore
Maximum 1 uncapped and one overseas player can be picked from the unretained players’ draft.
If they pick two capped players, they can be paid Rs 14 crore and Rs 10 crore.
Lucknow has already named Andy Flower as head coach, Vijay Dahiya as assistant coach, and Gautam Gambhir as mentor. The Ahmedabad franchise is on the verge of hiring Ashish Nehra as head coach and Gary Kirsten as mentor.
The BCCI knows that the two new franchises will be able to recruit three players apiece in a 10-day window. It is assumed that they completed their homework throughout the time it took CVC Capital to conduct their due diligence. The major auction in Bengaluru will also take place on the 12th and 13th of February, as planned.
