IPL Mega Auctions 2022: KKR buys pacer Tim Southee for ₹1.5 crore

New Zealand pacer Tim Southee will represent KKR for ₹1.5 crore as Kolkata adds in yet another pacer to their squad.

The New Zealand pacer’s IPL career started off on a shaky note. Southee was selected for the 2011 season by Chennai Super Kings, and despite winning their first game by defending 6 off the final over, he only played a few more games before being replaced by Doug Bollinger. He was out in the woods for two years when his championship-winning team did not keep him.
In 2014, the Rajasthan Royals paid IN 1.2 crore to bring him back into the league. Because of the Royals’ strong international recruitment, he didn’t get much playing time. In 2015, the same thing happened, and Southee spent the following two years with the Mumbai Indians after Rajasthan was dissolved.

Southee played 11 games for Mumbai in his first season, taking 9 wickets at an average of 36. The next year, he was passed over in favour of Mitchell McClenaghan and Mitchell Johnson. Royal Challengers Bangalore joined the race for the Kiwi in 2018, and he was selected for his base price of 1 crore. He went on to become RCB’s real death bowler, which earned him a long term deal.
