Abbott Elementary Season 3 Renewal: The third season of Abbott Elementary has been renewed the day following the 80th annual Golden Globe Awards. At last night’s ceremony, the mockumentary sitcom (which was created by Quinta Brunson and is set in a Philadelphia high school) was nominated for the most awards of any television series.
Brunson won Best Actress in a TV Series – Musical or Comedy, Tyler James Williams won Best Supporting Actor – Television, and the show won Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy.
The day after its triumphant Golden Globes performance, ABC announced at the Television Critics Association’s Winter 2023 panel that Abbott Elementary had been renewed for a third season.

This morning, the show was also nominated for two SAG awards as its golden awards season advances inexorably. As the second season is still airing, there is currently no information regarding the upcoming season’s plot details or returning ensemble cast members.
Reasons Why Abbott Elementary is So Popular
After it started in December 2021, in the middle of the season, it was a surprise hit for ABC. The show was picked up for a second season with 22 episodes while the first season with 13 episodes was still being shown. The network’s report also shows that more people watched season 2 than season 1.

The second season of Abbott Elementary had an average of 9.1 million viewers, which was a 13% increase from the first season. Adults aged 18–49 gave the show an average rating of 3.58 after 35 days of watching it on different platforms. This is a 31 percent increase from season 1.
It also did well at the Emmys 2022, winning three of the seven awards it was up for. This probably helped spread the word and make it more popular. With 17 reviews, critics gave Season 2 a perfect score of 100%, and viewers gave it an 88 percent score.

Critics and audiences love the comedy show in part because it brings attention to a group that doesn’t get enough credit: teachers who work hard to take care of their students despite low pay and budget cuts. But the comedy has been a huge draw, with sharp jokes written by Brunson, Morgan Murphy from Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and Brittani Nicols from A Black Lady Sketch Show, among others.
One of the plots that get talked about a lot is the relationship between Williams’ substitute teacher turned first-grade teacher Gregory Eddie and Brunson’s second-grade teacher Janine Teagues, which is a classic “will they or won’t they?” plot.

Even though it’s only halfway through its long run, season 2 of Abbott Elementary has added more depth to the relationships between the characters that were set up in season 1.

By showing what the characters do at home as well as at work, the show has given viewers a chance to see the deep feelings behind things like Janine’s breakup with Tariq and Melissa’s hard relationship with her sister.
With even more confidence in ABC’s support in season 3, the show can expand its story and characters and could end up being as popular with fans as The Office season 3 was.
