The Criminal Minds reboot is undoubtedly still a thing, and it will soon debut as Criminal Minds: Evolution on Paramount+. At the Paramount+ TCA panel for the series, showrunner Erica Messer said, “The first year has ten episodes and explores what our heroes have been up to since February of 2020, which is the last time you saw them, or, as we call it, “the before times.”
“The BAU has undergone some transformation, much like many other workplaces. The team now relies much more on one another than they did in previous years. And that’s a very good thing because, in the premiere, they’ll learn that a serial killer who has been on the lam since 2005 has become legendary due to the pandemic.
Zach Gilford’s ability to bring this unique unsub to life and the presence of so many well-known BAU agents on the show make us fortunate.” Joe Mantegna, who plays David Rossi, posted a message on Twitter confirming the start of work. He wrote: Just doing a quick check today for an upcoming project, along with a picture of himself on the set.
Nicole Clemens, President of Original Scripted Series at Paramount+, also reaffirmed it, saying, “For 15 seasons, Criminal Minds was at the forefront of cutting-edge scripted drama as it fascinatingly explored the psychology behind crime.
The show never stopped changing throughout its run, and we are beyond thrilled to bring it back to Paramount+ in a new era with fresh stories for a new audience. We are confident that the season being developed by Erica Messer, the entire cast, and the creative team will electrify audiences.

What is Criminal Minds Evolution About?
The plot of Criminal Minds: Evolution is described as follows by Paramount Plus: “In Criminal Minds: Evolution, an UnSub [unknown criminal] who has used the epidemic to create a network of other serial killers poses the greatest threat yet to the FBI’s elite team of criminal profilers.
The squad must track them down as the globe begins to open up again and the network becomes functioning.” Erica Messer, the creator and producer of Criminal Minds: Evolution, discussed the next iteration of the venerable series during a Paramount Plus press conference.

The showrunner cited scheduling conflicts as the reason they aren’t appearing in this first batch of episodes. If you’re wondering where Criminal Mind mainstays like Matthew Gray Gubler as Dr. Spencer Reid and Daniel Henney’s Matt Simmons are, Messer teases that their desks “are still there,” leaving open the possibility that one or both could return for the spinoff series.
