Ghostbusters 4 Release Date: Storyline, Who Will Reprise Their Roles for Ghostbusters 4?

Sony has announced Ghostbusters 4, but we’re still awaiting an official release date for the Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel. After Paul Feig’s all-female reboot, the series returned to the previous two movies in the 2021 sequel. Through Egon Spengler’s daughter Cassie and grandchildren Phoebe and Trevor, the second and third generations of the Ghostbusters legacy were introduced.

Sony has confirmed that a sequel will be released in April 2022, despite Ghostbusters: Afterlife’s mixed reviews from critics. There was no official announcement, but a sizzle reel at CinemaCon confirmed Ghostbusters 4. (or 5 if you want to include the Feig movie).

To celebrate the momentous news, here is all you need to know about Ghostbusters 4 and how Ghostbusters: Afterlife lays the stage for it.

Release Date of Ghostbusters 4

Sony has confirmed Ghostbusters 4, as previously said, although we do not yet have an official release date for the film.

Ghostbusters 4 Release Date

Ghostbusters: Afterlife was filmed from July to October 2019 and eventually arrived in theaters in October 2021, a year later than its intended release date of July 2020.

Assuming a similar schedule (based on the initial release date), we may expect to see the new film in theaters in 2023 if production begins this year. We currently have no information about when filming will begin.

We apologize for this inconvenience.

Who Will Reprise Their Roles for Ghostbusters 4?

The introduction of Ghostbusters 4’s teaser trailer did not include any cast confirmations, so all we can do is conjecture based on the events of Ghostbusters: Afterlife.

  • We anticipate the return of Finn Wolfhard and Mckenna Grace as Egon’s grandchildren, Trevor and Phoebe,
  • Carrie Coon as Egon’s daughter Callie, and
  • Paul Rudd as Callie’s beau Gary Grooberson.

It would be surprising if Bill Murray’s Peter Venkman, Dan Aykroyd’s Raymond Stantz, and Ernie Hudson’s Winston Zeddemore did not make a cameo appearance.

Harold Ramis made a posthumous appearance as Egon Spengler in Ghostbusters: Afterlife, but considering how it ended – with him going to the ‘afterlife’ – it’s highly doubtful they’d replicate the same ploy.

Annie Potts might reprise her role as Janine Melnitz, and Sigourney Weaver reprised her role as Dana Barrett for the mid-credits scene.

Logan Kim and Celeste O’Connor could possibly reprise their roles as Phoebe and Trevor’s schoolmates Podcast and Lucky Domingo, who was dragged into the paranormal adventure in the third film.

What Will Be the Storyline of Ghostbusters 4?

We don’t have an official description for the upcoming film, but director Jason Reitman stated prior to the release of Afterlife that it “exposed the universe to all sorts of storylines.”

For the time being, all we can do is examine the conclusion of the threequel for any hints. At the conclusion of Afterlife, Trevor, Phoebe, Podcast, and Lucky manage to defeat Gozer (yep, the same Gozer from 1984 original) and everything is well with the world.

Cassie makes peace with the ghost of her deceased father Egon (yes), and she and Gary will likely live happily, albeit a bit strangely, ever after. The family probably resides at Egon’s old house in Summerville, Oklahoma, and all is well with the world.

Obviously, there are scenes after the credits. It is the second one that sort of hints at a prospective sequel, though the manner in which this is implied is still unclear.

Winston tells Janine, the Ghostbusters’ former receptionist, about his accomplishments, but most importantly how having a home with the Ghostbusters allowed him to blossom.

After rescuing the car from Oklahoma, he narrates as the scene transitions to him returning to the old fire station where the Ghostbusters were located. Meanwhile, strange sounds echo throughout the firehouse.

Whether or not he intends to resuscitate the original Ghostbusters is presumably the cliffhanger that filmmaker Jason Reitman intended for us to be left with. However, there is no evident setup for a sequel, so whatever follows could be utterly unconnected.
