His Dark Materials’ Season 3 Cast, Trailer, and Poster Reveal the Final Revolution!

The “His Dark Materials” version from the BBC and HBO improved in Season 2, becoming a darker and more daring overall series. The same-named trilogy by author Philip Pullman, which naturally becomes more mature as Lyra Belacqua (Dafne Keen) matures during her journey to learn the truth about Dust, contributed to the show’s shift in tone.

And the third season of the show appears to be setting up for an even more intense Lyra journey. Lyra had been abducted by Mrs. Coulter (Rush Wilson), who had learned the girl is destined to become the second Eve when we last left off (spoilers from this point on).

At the same time that Lord Asriel (James McAvoy) was preparing for war against the Authority with no less than a bunch of rogue angels by his side, Will Parry (Amir Wilson) was confronting his future as the bearer of the Subtle Knife, John Parry (Andrew Scott) had been killed. In other words, as Season 3 approaches, things are sure to grow intense. Here is all we know about “His Dark Materials” season 3.

His Dark Materials Season 3 Be Release Date

Fans have been expecting to watch “His Dark Materials”‘ end since Season 2‘s Season 2 finale debuted on HBO Max in December 2020. They won’t have to wait long, thank goodness. On December 5, 2022, HBO Max will release the first episode of Season 3, and on December 26 the series will come to an end (via Collider).

Season 3 will include only eight episodes, following the format of the first two seasons (via Deadline). We’ll be curious to see how they manage to weave all those complex ideas and interconnected stories together in less than 10 episodes as this final season tackles “The Amber Spyglass,” the strangest and largest volume in author Philip Pullman’s series of books.

This is especially true given that producer Jane Tranter originally intended to split the final book into two separate seasons.

His Dark Materials Season 3 Cast: Who’s Coming Back?

Needless to say, Dafne Keen will reprise her role as main character Lyra Belacqua, but she is far from the only returning cast member. Amir Wilson will reprise his role as Will Parry, Lord Asriel will be played by James McAvoy, Mrs. Coulter will be played by Ruth Wilson, and Mary Malone will be played by Simone Kirby.

Jade Anouka will play Ruta Skadi, Ruta Gedminstas will play Serafina Pekkala, Will Keen will play Father President McPhail, Jamie Ward will play Father Gomez, Amber Fitzgerald will play Ama, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje will play Commander Ogun.

In addition, Simon Harrison, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, and Chipo Chung will play the angels Baruch, Balthamos, and Xaphania, who will aid Asriel in his battle against the Authority. We’ll also see two of our deceased friends, Andrew Scott as John Parry and Lin-Manuel Miranda as Lee Scoresby, as we make our way to the underworld.

His Dark Materials Season 3 Plot: What Will Happen?

Season 3 of “His Dark Materials” will be much darker, deeper, and stranger than previous seasons because it is based on “The Amber Spyglass.” The Magisterium intends to assassinate Lyra, the foretold the second Eve, so Lord Asriel is gathering a sizable army to lead a rebellion against the Authority (also known as God).

In order to save her best friend Roger Parslow (Lewin Lloyd), who was killed in Season 1, our heroine and her knife-wielding companion Will journey to the land of the dead. Of course, as the official plot summary states, “[our heroes] will learn that saving the worlds comes at a terrible price as her father’s great war against the Authority edges closer.”

His Dark Materials' Season 3

In addition to all of that, Mrs. Coulter, who abducted Lyra at the conclusion of Season 2, is sure to cause a tonne of drama. Additionally, according to Dafne Keen’s statement to Entertainment Weekly, “We’re going to be thrust into a strange world of angels and elephantine mules and jumping between dimensions.” “3.0 is a wild season.

In my whole life, I have never photographed anything as bizarre as this. When discussing angels, God, and the most absurd things ever, we’ve shot in so many bizarre places and created so many surreal scenes. This season was even more wonderful than the first two, which were already quite good.”
