Scream 6 Release Date: Cast, Trailer, What Could the Plot of Scream 6 Be About?

In Scream 6, Ghostface will return to the big screen. Given the success of the reboot of Scream, this should not come as much of a surprise. In Scream (or Scream 5, if you prefer), a new version of Ghostface unleashed his violence on a bunch of unsuspecting adolescents.

However, Ghostface was hardly the only recognizable face from the original franchise. The original trio of Sidney, Dewey, and Gale returned, attempting to assist the adolescents in surviving.

While the plot of Scream was self-contained, the events of the film are expected to have a significant impact on the following installment of the series. In light of this, here is everything you need to know about the impending Scream 6 and what we can deduce about it.

Release Date of Scream 6

The release date of Scream 6 has been revealed as March 31, 2023.

Since production on the sequel began in June 2022, everything seemed to be on track for the film’s March 2023 release date.

The Cast of Scream 6

Neve Campbell’s departure from the role of Sidney Prescott must come first: She indicated that negotiations were “really” the deciding factor. She remarked, “I did not feel that the offer was commensurate with the value I contribute to this business and have brought to this franchise for 25 years.”

“As a woman in this industry, I believe it is crucial for us to be appreciated and to fight for our value. I honestly do not believe that if I were a man and had completed five installments of a massive blockbuster franchise over 25 years, I would have been offered the same number of films.

“And I simply could not do that in my heart. I could not walk onto the scene while feeling undervalued and unfairness or lack of fairness surrounding that.”

Courteney Cox will reprise her role as Gale Weathers, while Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega will reprise their roles as the Carpenter sisters Sam and Tara.

In addition, Hayden Panettiere, the star of Scream 4, will reprise her role as Kirby Reed in the next film, which may mitigate the impact of losing Sidney. In August 2022, we first saw a glimpse of her reappearance.

Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding return from the last film as Randy’s niece and nephew, Mindy and Chad Meeks-Martin, respectively. Roger Jackson will undoubtedly reprise his role as Ghostface’s voice actor.

Behind the scenes of the upcoming Scream, the film will be the same creative crew as the previous film. New to Scream 6 are Tony Revolori of Spider-Man and Samara Weaving of Home and Away, as well as Henry Czerny, Dermot Mulroney, Jack Champion, Josh Segarra, Liana Liberato, and Devyn Nekoda.

We do not yet know who any of them are currently playing. Billy Loomis, played by Skeet Ulrich, was revealed to be Sam’s father in an unexpected cameo appearance in the sixth film. His only appearances are in her hallucinations, but it does not preclude similar appearances in the upcoming film.

Heather Matarazzo could reprise her role as Martha Meeks in the 2020 film Scream, which also has voice cameos from Drew Barrymore, Matthew Lillard, and Jamie Kennedy. But not as their characters Casey, Stu, and Randy, who are presumably all deceased in the universe of Scream… correct?

David Arquette’s Dewey Riley, who was brutally murdered by Ghostface in the fifth film, is among the other stars from the 2020 film Scream who will not return for Scream 6.

What Could the Plot of Scream 6 Be About?

As previously established, the new Scream does not set itself up for a sequel in any way, much like the other films. However, the new film appears to establish Sam and Tara Carpenter as the new series protagonists, especially given Sam’s connection to the original film as Billy’s daughter.

This would make her an obvious target, similar to how Sidney was in the original trilogy. Thankfully, Scream avoided the easy plot twist of making Sam a serial murderer like her father, and we hope that subsequent films maintain this approach.

“Our assumption was that she now accepts Billy as a part of herself.” While he will always be a part of her, she must now take that on,” co-director Matt Bettinelli-Olpin remarked to Fandom.

“We had a version of the film where she was still medicating herself at the end, but we decided it was preferable not to have her do that to have it feel like she’s not just back where she was when she began medicating away her past, and that she can now accept Billy as a part of who she is.”

In terms of narrative, the only thing we can guarantee at this time is that any future film will parody current horror and film trends. Scream targeted toxic fandom and “requels,” thus it remains to be seen what the next film would tackle.

We also do not know how they will handle Sidney’s absence, which will undoubtedly arise. It would be shocking if they killed Sidney off-screen, so anticipate a one-liner about her unwillingness to get involved this time.

Are There Any Scream 6 Trailers Out Yet?

Scream 6 may be filming, but we’ll likely have to wait a while for the first footage, given the previous film’s trailer wasn’t released until three months before its release.
