In Third Season of Disney Plus’ Sister Act Will Whoopi Goldberg Return ?

If you were alive in the 1990s, there’s a good chance you were exposed to some sort of Whoopi Goldberg production. Even though you might recognise her as one of the presenters of The View these days, Goldberg was a prominent star in films like The Color Purple, Ghost, and The Lion King, just to mention a few, when she was younger.

Even though she wasn’t nominated for an Oscar, she was hosting the award ceremony. After receiving a little assistance from the irrepressible Tyler Perry, Goldberg will be repeating one of her most well-known film roles in Sister Act 3.

Even while Sister Act is just one of several successful films in which Goldberg has appeared, it is most likely her most well-known. The film, which was released in 1992, was about Deloris Wilson (Whoopi Goldberg), a Nevada lounge singer who, after witnessing her mob-connected boyfriend Vince LaRocca (Harvey Keitel) murder an informant, decides to seek witness protection to defend herself. Taking refuge at a monastery, Deloris soon becomes involved in the restoration of the choir’s sagging morale

The film was a huge success at the box office, grossing more than $230 million worldwide (via Box Office Mojo). Sister Act was such a hit that it produced a sequel a year later, although the film had less-than-stellar box office results and was met with widespread condemnation from reviewers. Sister Act 2 was a critical and commercial disappointment (via Rotten Tomatoes).

Following the release of a popular Broadway musical based on the films three decades ago, Disney+ is bringing the brand back to life with a new series. It was revealed in a tweet sent out in December by Disney that Sister Act 3 was “in development,” and that not only would Goldberg co-produce alongside Perry, but she would also reprise her role as the title character.

What Actors and Actresses will be Appearing in Sister Act 3?

In addition to the energetic musical sequences and Whoopi Goldberg’s outstanding comedic abilities, the original Sister Act was a smash hit because of its superb supporting cast.

According to Variety, Kathy Najimy, who played the joyful Sister Mary Patrick, and Mary Wickes, who played the sardonic Sister Mary Lazarus, gave Sister Act’s comedy moments a “huge lift,” while Maggie Smith’s “strong performance” as Mother Superior gave the film the “necessary warmth.” Who can forget Najimy’s iconic dance performance to Dee Dee Sharp’s “Gravy,” which was included in the film Gravy?

Wickes lost away tragically in 1995. The Hocus Pocus sequel will be released later this year, and Najimy, who is also acting in it, said earlier this month that she would be open to joining the sequel because filming the first two films was enjoyable and, unlike Hocus Pocus, she would spend less time in the make-up chair. “You know why I enjoy it, don’t you? There will be no hair, no make-up, and no spankings “” she explained. “For me, it’s a win-win situation.”

And as for Smith, the Downton Abbey actress has not yet confirmed whether or not she will be returning for the third instalment of the television series. In a 2017 appearance on The View, the legendary actress expressed her fondness for the “wild, crazy, crazy” films they made together and said she had “such fond memories of when we did those crazy, crazy, crazy films.”

Goldberg, on the other hand, is no slouch. According to her, she and her staff were “working furiously” to figure out how to bring the gang together and to return to the show when she appeared on The Late Late Show with James Corden in October.

The Plot of Sister Act 3 has not yet been Revealed

The plot of the next sequel remains a mystery at this time. It’s clear that Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit ended with Deloris saving St. Francis Academy from closing after winning a choral competition, but it’s anyone’s guess where the third instalment will take us next.

We do know that Mixed-ish and Star writer-producer Karin Gist, as well as Insecure writer-producer Regina Hicks, will be writing the script for the third film (as reported by Variety).

And, while the premise of the film is still up in the air, we do have some ideas for possible titles for it. On The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in December, Goldberg and Colbert discussed possible titles for the film, which included Oh My God It Still Fits, Backer in the Habit, and Blacker in the Habit.

Whatever the title, seeing Goldberg and the nuns get back into their routines for a third film would make any fan delighted, no matter what they called it in the beginning.

When Will Sister Act 3 be Available on DVD And Blu-Ray?

Knowing there will indeed be a third Sister Act film to formally complete the franchise’s trilogy, the first question on many fans’ thoughts is likely to be: When can we expect to be able to see it?

Since the film officially commenced development in the middle of December 2020, the exact date of its release has remained a mystery for the most part. Given that the project was only recently announced and that filming will not begin until later in 2021, it is reasonable to anticipate that the film will not be released until at least 2022 at the earliest.
While the exact release date is still unknown, it’s likely that Perry is producing because his film studio in Georgia was one of the first to resume production last summer after COVID-19 forced many studios to stop filming, according to CBS News. While the exact release date is still unknown, it’s likely that Perry is producing.

Despite the fact that it will be difficult to wait for Whoopi to get back into the habit, fans will have to follow the nuns’ example and practise patience.

Whoopi Goldberg Will Return for the Third Season of Disney Plus’ ‘Sister Act,’ Which Will be Produced With Tyler Perry

Hallelujah! Sister Act 3 is officially a go, with Whoopi Goldberg returning to star in and produce the film alongside Tyler Perry, who will also executive produce.

The third instalment in the “Sister Act” series comes nearly 30 years after Goldberg made her debut as Deloris Van Cartier, a former cabaret singer who became a singing nun in the first film.

In the meantime, Goldberg and Perry are hard at work on the film, which is scheduled to premiere on Disney Plus later this year. There has been no announcement of a release date.

The new film, which was announced on Thursday during Disney Investor Day by Sean Bailey, president of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production, is the fourth collaboration between Perry and Goldberg. They most recently collaborated on the 2018 film “Nobody’s Fool,” which starred Tiffany Haddish.

Perry offered to Andy Cohen, who was hosting “Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen,” that he and Goldberg collaborate on a third “Sister Act” picture while promoting that film. Consider your prayers (and those of Perry) to have been answered.

Earlier this year, Goldberg praised Perry as a collaborator, praising him in particular for showing a special respect for Black actors, echoing Tyson, Idris Elba, and Taraji P. Henson, who have all credited the mogul with reviving their respective careers. “I think he’s a great guy,” Goldberg said of Perry.

Regarding her role as Whoopi Goldberg in Tyler Perry’s “For Colored Girls” in 2010, Goldberg said Variety that she didn’t have a director who told her: “I have an ensemble of folks — let me just let Whoopi know I wrote this thing for her and it’s done.” “For him to extend the invitation to me to come and collaborate on this piece was insane.”

In addition, Goldberg is commemorated with a soundstage on Tyler Perry’s 330-acre studio lot in Atlanta, Georgia, which bears her name.
