The Babylon Trailer Shows a Glittery Yet Perplexing Side of Hollywood
The trailer pays homage to Chazelle’s previous works, including the period comedy La La Land and the music-driven drama Whiplash. It has a bright aesthetic, with flashy outfits and a big finale that fits in with what we’ve seen so far from this director.
Set during a turbulent period in Hollywood history, the film investigates the dark underbelly of the film industry during the Roaring Twenties, as seen through the eyes of an outsider. It is both a period piece and a gritty drama, with Manny as the protagonist. It’s difficult to be a part of significant stories when others fawn over faster, more chaotic films.

The trio presents three very distinct perspectives on the entertainment world. According to the trailer, this film has a maximalist tone. There is also an elephant and a crocodile in there. Some people had unpleasant reactions to the film’s viewing. There are also production challenges, angry crews, and a wide cast of people throughout the picture.

The style is undeniably evocative of Damien Chazelle’s work. The trailer also teases Chazelle’s own path to Hollywood. He’s had a lot of success and a lot of support, but he knows that his unique voice is only alive because it dances around the shoals of criticism, a market where too much exposure may break the very artist who flourishes whenever someone accuses him of thinking differently.
From what we can tell from the teaser, Babylon appears to be an emotional yet wildly humorous odyssey that leaves plenty to the imagination. However, it is vital to note that if this isn’t your type of humor, you might not enjoy it as much.
