The Morning Show Season 3 Release Date, Cast, Plot, & Everything You Need to Know

Sunita

The Morning Show, an Apple TV+ drama series that debuted in 2019, gives viewers a look at all the scheming, betrayal, egos, and twisted relationships that take place behind the scenes of a popular New York morning TV show.

In the first season, Jennifer Aniston and Steve Carell played co-hosts and longtime friends Alex Levy and Mitch Kessler, whose friendship ended after Mitch was fired for sexual misconduct.

Alex also had to deal with the arrival of reporter Bradley Jackson (Reese Witherspoon), who might replace Mitch and the schemes of TV network CEO Cory Ellison (Billy Crudup).

There is plenty of room for a third season given that the second season ended with everyone’s jobs on the line due to the COVID-19 pandemic and relationships, such as Alex’s with producer/friend Chip, Bradley’s with girlfriend Laura, and Bradley’s with smitten boss Cory, under strain.

The Morning Show Season 3 Release Date

The Morning Show’s first season premiered on Apple TV+ in November 2019, with the second season, set and filmed during the COVID-19 pandemic, premiering nearly two years later, in September 2021.

“It’s been thrilling to watch The Morning Show grow from strength to strength over the past two seasons, exploring topical storylines that have resonated with audiences all over the world while also being incredibly addictive and entertaining,” said Matt Cherniss, Apple TV+’s head of programming.

“We’re excited to see where Charlotte [Stoudt, the new showrunner] takes these extraordinary characters in season three, and to witness the magic that Jennifer, Reese, and our awe-inspiring cast bring to the captivating world of morning television.”

Season three appears to be almost as long in the making as season two – in June of this year, star Jennifer Aniston told The Cut that filming on the new season would begin in two and a half months. That means production will most likely begin in September, and we won’t see new episodes until at least early 2023.

The Morning Show Season 3 Cast: Who Will Appear?

One cast member, however, will undoubtedly not be returning (unless there are flashbacks, of course), and that actor is Steve Carell, whose Mitch Kessler perished in season two after driving off an Italian hillside road.

His girlfriend Paola Lambruschini (Valeria Golino), who has the confessional documentary he made before his passing, was still unsure what to do with it at the end of season 2 so his presence is probably still felt.

Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, the two biggest stars of The Morning Show and the show’s executive producers, will return, and they might be joined by the following main cast members:

  • Ben Crudup (Cory Ellison)
  • Marguerite Margulies (Laura Peterson)
  • Judith Lee (Stella Bak)
  • Darren Terry (Daniel Henderson)
  • Duplass, Mark (Charlie Black, aka Chip)
  • Nicolás Carbonell (Yanko Flores)
  • K. Pittman (Mia Jordan)

O’Connor, Ruairi (Ty Fitzgerald)Hasan Minhaj as Eric, Holland Taylor as UBA chair Cybill Richards, Marcia Gay Harden as Maggie Brener, and Janina Gavankar as Alison Namazi are regular cast members who might also make a comeback.

Could Bel Powley, who played Claire Conway in the second season before switching to guest roles, return for season three as well?

The drama’s first and second seasons’ showrunner, Kerry Ehrin, also hinted to Deadline that Valeria Golino might play Paola again in the third season of The Morning Show, particularly in light of *that* season two finale cliffhanger.

Of course, once production begins in earnest, we’ll know more about who will unquestionably return.

The Morning Show Season 3 Plot: What to Expect?

After Maggie’s tell-all book revealed Alex’s affair with former co-host Mitch, the second season ended in March 2020 with her career in jeopardy. After being “canceled” after the book’s publication, Alex reunited with producer Chip and he helped her go on air from her home to talk about the story while battling COVID.

Mimi Leder, who directed the season two finale, told The Hollywood Reporter: “Alex goes on a very important journey where she questions: Is she still relevant? She feared Maggie’s book would destroy her. She starts the season afraid and goes on a self-discovery journey.

“We wanted the ending to feel more like a prayer than a pronouncement. That Alex said, “This is what I hope for, wish for, and want it to be.”

Meanwhile, Bradley and boss Cory found her brother in a New York hospital full of COVID-19 patients. Witherspoon told The Hollywood Reporter that Bradley’s family may be featured in the next season.

“She has a complicated past that she still hasn’t reconciled,” she said. “Her relationship with her brother is really complex and I’m really interested in what the next step would be because it’s such a big part of her life. Siblings can make or break you.”

In the season two finale, Bradley debated moving to Montana with her girlfriend, TV reporter Laura Peterson, as New York went into lockdown and the Morning Show team planned to work remotely during the pandemic.

Season 1 and 2 showrunners Kerry Ehrin, who will consult on season 3, has suggested that the third season may jump ahead of season two.

“You could [jump into the future],” she told The Hollywood Reporter about the series. Reverse. It’s fascinating. It can be set anywhere in time, and the show’s challenge is finding that big subject.”

“I want more Bradley and Laura,” she said. “I feel like Alex has come to a place for the first time since the pilot of accepting who she is and facing her worst fears, and I want to see how the phoenix rises from the ashes for her and learning how to have a full life and be present and loving.”
