Mbappe’s extra-time goal gives PSG the victory

PSG wins the first leg against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.

Paris have won the first leg of Round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League by 1-0 and it was Kylian Mbappe who gave the final strike to get a winning goal in the 90’+4 minute. Mbappe’s goal have helped the team to take a lead before visiting Madrid for the second leg.

Thibaut Courtois blocked a number of critical goals, including one of Lionel Messi’s penalties in the second half, but he couldn’t save the winning goal of Mbappe from the Ligue 1 side. The strike from Kylian Mbappe proved too strong for the Real Madrid goalkeeper, who could have earned a clean sheet following his outstanding performance for the rest of the game.

It was anticipated, given the Madrid’s fitness worries about Karim Benzema, the team’s top striker, and Ferland Mendy, who were not expected to participate in the first leg due to injury. Fans had minimal expectations because it was stated that the players would only appear until they were 100 percent fit. The hosts dominated the Los Blancos from the first half onwards, with PSG failing to score despite having two chances to take the lead in the second half before the eventual victory. Mbappe’s attempt was well stopped by the Belgian in the 50th minute, while Messi’s penalty was rejected by the Belgian in the 62nd minute, keeping the score at 0-0 for both teams.

The miracle occurred when Neymar was brought in for Angel Di Maria, and the Brazilian offered a backheel pass to which the Frenchman scored behind the opponent’s bar without committing any mistakes.
