Even if you’re not looking for love, some dating apps now let you connect with people who share your interests, even if you’re not looking for a relationship.
People use dating apps because they are popular and easy to use. New features on dating apps like video chats and similar tools can help you get to know someone online before you decide if you want to meet up in person.
Most of the time, the best dating apps are made to help people find love. But some have also expanded their goals to help you make any kind of relationship, even just friends. Because of this, we’re looking at apps that offer more than just swiping, like video meetups and security checks, to make online dating a lot better than it was before.
If you’re looking for someone to hang out with, we can help you sort through all the different dating apps out there to find the best ones for you.
What are the best dating apps in the USA?
Tinder, one of the biggest and best dating apps with a wide reach, is hard to beat when it comes to finding love in the mobile age. Tinder is known for helping people find quick hookups, but it can also be used to find long-term partners, and recent updates have made the app safer and added video features.
Other apps, like Bumble and Match.com, are better for long-term relationships. Bumble gives women the power to make new friends, and Match.com helps people find dates. OkCupid now has a variety of tools to help people find love, while the main goal of Hinge is to get you to delete the app once you’ve found your perfect match.
Want to find someone of the same gender? Grindr was the first app of its kind, and She is a dating app for lesbian and bisexual people. There are also dating apps for professionals, gamers, and other groups.
1- Tinder ( Available For Android and IOS )
Tinder is probably the best-known dating app that lets you swipe through possible matches. The photos and short profiles make it easy to judge potential partners quickly. You make a simple profile with a few photos and a few sentences about yourself. Then, you’re thrown into a pool of other users near you and in the age range, you want.
The app shows you single people who live near you. If you like someone’s profile, swipe the photo to the right. If not, swipe it to the left. If you both swipe right, you can talk to each other and make plans.
If you pay for a Tinder Plus or Gold membership, you can use features like unlimited likes and rewind, which give potential partners a second chance. If you know how to use Tinder’s paid levels, you can also change where your profile shows up.
Tinder keeps making changes to how it works. It recently added a video feature that lets you make in-app video calls to matches without giving out any personal information. The Noonlight app has a feature called “Safety Center.”
This gives you a panic button in case you’re on a date and feel unsafe, and it lets you run background checks based on information from public records. Tinder might even add a “swipe party” feature that lets your friends help you find a potential partner.
2- Bumble ( Available for Android and IOS )
Bumble is one of the best apps for dating that helps women take the lead. With the power to connect in the hands of its female users, the app can help you set up dates or meet new people. Even if you’re not looking for love, you might want to give Bumble a try just to meet new people and make more friends.
After two people connect and become part of each other’s hive, it’s up to the woman to make the first move. From there, you have 24 hours to get in touch with someone or the connection will be lost. Either person in a same-sex connection or friendship has to do something within 24 hours or the connection will end. You can get an extra 24 hours, though.
When it comes to making friends, Bumble has a “BFF” feature for people who aren’t looking for dates and a separate section for making business contacts. The Bumble Boost upgrade, which costs between $2.99 and $8.99, makes a meeting or dating people easier and faster.
A couple of years ago, Bumble added a video, which gave one of the best dating apps an advantage in the “shelter-in-place” era. An Evening Also, games, starting with a trivia game, were added so that you and your date could have something to do while you were video chatting.
3- OkCupid ( Available for Android and IOS )
OkCupid has a huge number of users and easy-to-use dating tools. But OkCupid doesn’t rest on its laurels. Instead, it keeps improving and adding to its top dating app. For example, it has a “Flavors” system that lets users quickly see evocative flavors of potential matches, like “Kinky Nerds,” “Beard Lovers,” “World Travelers,” etc.
All of this is on top of the messaging tools, personality tests, Instagram integration, and other old favorites that OkCupid already has. With a paid subscription, you can get extra features like better search tools and the ability to see which users have liked you.
4- Hinge ( Available for Android and IOS )
Hinge is a dating app that doesn’t work like swipe-based apps like Tinder. Instead, it focuses on relationships and interesting conversations. In fact, the service says that it wants you to delete the app because you’ve found love, not because you’re done with it.
Hinge doesn’t like swipes and wants you to fill out a more detailed profile with pictures and stories. Then, users can choose to like or comment on something in that profile, which starts a conversation between both parties. Every day, you can look at new suggestions and see who has liked something on your profile.
Because of the coronavirus pandemic, we had to stay inside for a while, so Hinge quickly made Date From Home features available. Other changes include working with places like Chipotle and Uber Eats to make it easier for users to meet up for dinner with people they don’t know well.
A new feature called “Standouts” shows you people who are more likely to be your type and topics that Hinge thinks will get you talking to your potential match. There is also a paid level that makes your profile show up higher in searches, but we don’t think you need to pay to get the most out of the app’s matching features.
5- Match.Com ( Available for Android and IOS )
Match.com lets its users dating for free or for a small fee on both Android and iOS. Free users can set up online profiles, upload a few photos of themselves, and then flirt online with “winks.” Every day, they will receive new matches. With a Match.com subscription, you can get access to more features, like being able to see who has looked at your profile and liked your photos.
Match has kept adding new features, like a Tinder-like app called Mixer, support for Android Wear and Apple Watch, and the ability to add voice and video clips to your profile. Vibe Check, which came out in the spring, lets you have video chats with your matches, while Match lets you pay a little extra to have real-life dating coaches make matches for you.
Like Tinder, Match has a safety feature that lets you let your friends know if you feel unsafe on a date. You can even tell Match what your political views are, so you can find someone whose views are similar to yours (or don’t, if you think opposites attract).
