Shawn Michaels is a former professional wrestler from the United States with a net worth of $10 million. Michaels is most known for his 30-year career as a professional wrestler. Much of which he spent with the WWE (formally known as WWF). Fans call him “Heartbreak Kid,” “The Showstopper,” and “Mr. WrestleMania,” among other nicknames. Early Years of Shawn Michaels

Michael Shawn Hickenbottom was born in Chandler, Arizona on July 22, 1965. Michael was raised in a Catholic home with four older brothers and spent time in Reading, England as a “military brat”. After that, his military family moved to San Antonio, where he spent the rest of his youth. Shawn Michaels eventually became tired of his initial name and requested that his family refer to him as “Shawn.” Due to his father’s military profession, Shawn spent a significant period of time living in various locations of the United States.

Hickenbottom determined at the age of 12 that he wanted to be a professional wrestler. At his high school talent presentation, he ultimately did a wrestling act. Shawn was also an active athlete at this time, having played football from the age of six. He eventually moved to linebacker and was named captain of his high school football team.

Shawn attended Southwest Texas State University after graduating from high school. He dropped out of college to seek a career as a professional wrestler after becoming disillusioned with collegiate life.

Career of Shawn Michaels

After training with Mexican wrestler Jose Lothario, Hickenbottom joined the National Wrestling Alliance in 1984. After that, he spent time with Texas All-Star Wrestling and the American Wrestling Association until joining the WWF in 1987. This was during Shawn’s time as a member of The Midnight Rockers, which he formed with Marty Jannetty. Due to a “bar incident,” The Midnight Rockers were sacked from the WWF, forcing them to return to AWA.

They finally returned to the WWF in 1988, however. Shawn had carved out his own distinct identity as the Heartbreak Kid by 1992. He was a popular favorite by 1995, and he was linked to The Kliq. He won his first WWF Championship in 1996. Unfortunately, a knee ailment forced him to resign from the position shortly after. His ailments had progressed to the point that he had to retire in 1998. He resurfaced in 2002 to feud with Triple H, proving that this was more of a break than a sabbatical.

Shawn Michaels rejoined with D-Generation X between 2005 and 2007. He was embroiled in several feuds over the following few years while winning more titles. In 2010, he announced his second retirement, which included a series of highly anticipated farewell matches.

Unfortunately, wrestling fans were outraged by his choice to return to the ring after an eight-year hiatus. In 2018, he returned to Crown Jewel with a performance. That was widely regarded as the worst of the year. It was dubbed a “complete catastrophe” by some.

Even before his retirement, Shawn Michaels was widely regarded as one of the best wrestlers of all time by fans. He was recognized for many bouts, including ones against Steve Austin, Ric Flair, Bret Hart, and others. His battle with Bret Hart, in particular, is regarded as one of the best in wrestling history.

Abuse of Substances

Shawn was dealing with major drug misuse difficulties during the mid-80s. His closest friends were unable to stop him from spiraling lower, and as a consequence, he cut relations with many of them. Hickenbottom pondered suicide at one time in the late 1980s. This trend persisted until Shawn realized that a psychiatric intervention was required in the late 1990s. Hickenbottom’s own wife speculated that he was suffering from self-loathing and self-destruction.

Shawn’s drug misuse troubles were eventually resolved thanks to a mix of reasons. He knew, first and foremost, that he did not want to be a bad influence on his kid. Second, he drew strength from his Christian religion.

Relationships

Shawn married Theresa Wood for the first time, however the couple divorced soon after. Their breakup was friendly. He married Whisper, a former WCW Nitro Girl, in 1999. Their wedding was held in Las Vegas, with an Elvis impersonator as the sole guest in attendance. The couple brought their first kid into the world in the year 2000. They had a second kid four years later.
