Taylor Swift is an American singer, songwriter, and producer. Throughout her career, she has sold over 200 million albums.
Taylor Alison Swift was born in West Reading, Pennsylvania, on December 13, 1989. She is named after James Taylor, a musician. She spent her early years on a Christmas tree farm with her parents Scott and Andrea and brother Austin.
For preschool and kindergarten, she attended a Montessori school and then transferred to The Wyndcroft School for first grade. Taylor became interested in musical theatre when she was nine years old. Additionally, she participated in New York City singing and acting lessons.
She first became interested in country music as a fan of Shania Twain. As a teenager and adolescent, she performed at neighborhood gatherings and festivals.
She eventually convinced herself that she needed to go to Nashville, where she and her mother submitted Taylor’s early demo of Dolly Parton and The Chicks songs. Taylor was rejected by record labels because she lacked enough originality, and she left Nashville without a record deal.
She learnt to play the guitar at the age of 12 and wrote “Lucky You.” Swift’s family relocated to Nashville when she was 14 to offer her a better shot of getting into music.
Swift began working with Dan Dymtrow, a music manager, in 2003. He was key in securing Swift a modelling gig for Abercrombie & Fitch’s “Rising Stars” campaign and in getting one of her own songs included on a Maybelline compilation CD.
Swift was signed to an artist development deal after presenting her original songs at an RCA Records showcase.
Swift released her first song “Tim McGraw” a year after signing with Big Machine Records, which preceded the release of her self-titled studio album. Taylor Swift peaked at number five on the US Billboard 200, but topped the US Country Music chart.
“Our Song” and “Should’ve Said No” were both chart-topping singles from the album. The RIAA has certified her debut album platinum more than four times. Swift’s sophomore album, Fearless, debuted at the top of the United States Billboard, United States Country, New Zealand, and Canadian music charts.
It was certified platinum in four countries, including six times in the United States, and spawned two number-one singles, “Love Story” and “You Belong with Me.” She has shared the stage with John Mayer, Justin Bieber, and Faith Hill.
Swift has received numerous awards, including 23 American Music Awards, eleven Grammy Awards, and 23 Billboard Music Awards. At the time of this writing, she has sold over 50 million albums and 150 million singles worldwide.
Taylor participated on five global tours between 2009 and 2018, grossing a total of $943 million. Swift has been on television and in films as herself on “Saturday Night Live” and “Dateline NBC,” as well as in fictionalised roles on shows and films such as “Valentine’s Day,” “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” and “Hannah Montana: The Movie.”
Swift has also been featured in a number of popular publications, including Seventeen, Teen Vogue, and Rolling Stone. Swift released her latest album, “Folklore,” in August 2020, and it debuted at the top of the charts.
Taylor Swift’s personal life has long been a source of fascination for the press and her fans. She has been dating actor Joe Alwyn since May 2017, however she has previously dated a who’s who of prominent guys.
Taylor was in a relationship with DJ Calvin Harris in 2015. She dated actor Tom Hiddleston the same year.
She began dating Harry Styles in November 2012. Taylor and Harry spent the 2012-2013 winter holidays together in the British Virgin Islands and were quickly separated, apparently because they were both extremely busy and rarely stayed in one area for an extended period of time.
Swift began a three-month engagement with actor Jake Gyllenhaal in late 2010.
She also had a brief relationship with John Mayer, long enough for her to pen the song “Dear John” about him.
Swift met Taylor Lautner while filming Valentine’s Day, and the pair quickly became inseparable. That relationship, too, did not last long, but it did inspire a song, “Back to December.”
Swift dated Joe Jonas for three months in 2008.
Swift was photographed hiking in Utah with her lover Joe Alwyn in August 2020, as her surprise album “Folklore” was released.
Endorsements and Compensation
Taylor earned approximately $50 million between June 2016 and June 2017. Swift has earned more than $150 million in recent years from record sales, tours, merchandise, and sponsorships.
Taylor, for example, made $170 million between June 2015 and June 2016 partly as a result of the immensely successful 1989 world tour.
Between June 2018 and June 2019, Taylor made $185 million from her empire, mostly due to the $266 million grossed by her “Reputation” stadium tour. She earned $64 million between June 2019 and June 2020.
Taylor has endorsed and associated with hundreds of companies over her career. AT&T, CoverGirl, Verizon Wireless, Diet Coke, Keds, AirAsia, Qantas, Sony Electronics, and Target are just a few of her collaboration firms.
Deal with Republic Records and Departure from the Big Machine
Between 2006 and 2017, Taylor produced six albums for Big Machine Records. When her contract with Big Machine came up for renewal in 2018, we discovered that her relationship with the company and its CEO Scott Borchetta had deteriorated considerably.
Taylor’s major objective in the negotiations was to reclaim ownership of her first six studio albums. Borchetta reportedly offered her a contract in which she would reclaim control of her older albums one by one when she released new ones over the next several years.
Taylor, who was aware that Borchetta was considering selling his company, later explained that she was opposed to being sold to a new corporation. She eventually elected to part ways with Big Machine and her back library, signing a new long-term deal with Republic Records, a Universal Music imprint.
The new agreement had two significant caveats:
1) From this point forward, she owns all of her master recordings.
2) She receives a greater share of the income from the selling of her music. Additionally, if Universal ever sells its $1 billion interest in Spotify, Taylor will receive a significant portion of the proceeds.
Residential Real Estate
Taylor Swift’s real estate holdings are pretty substantial. She owns approximately $90 million in real estate in the United States.
Nashville: At the age of 20, she purchased a condo in downtown Nashville that is now worth $3 million. In 2011, she paid $2.5 million on a sprawling mansion in Nashville’s suburbs.
She paid $6.65 million in 2013 on a 12,000-square-foot waterfront mansion in Rhode Island.
Taylor has apartments in New York City valued $50 million. Her Manhattan presence began in 2014, when she purchased a penthouse in Tribeca, which she later converted into a ten-bedroom duplex that is now likely worth more than $20 million on its own.
In 2017, she paid $12.5 million for the 100-year-old four-story penthouse adjacent to the duplex. She spent $10 million in February 2018 on another condo in her original building.
She resides in a $30 million mansion in Los Angeles, which she acquired in September 2015.
