In an Interview With Rolling Stone, Fury Said That He Had Fallen Into a Profound Despair
“What I’m going through right now is a lot of personal issues I’m trying to shake off, and it has nothing to do with fighting. I haven’t gone to the gym in a while. Anxiety and sadness are taking their toll on me. If you understand what I’m saying, I’ve had enough of life and am ready to die. In the end, I’ve had enough. Forget about coke. I didn’t give a hoot. I’m done with living. So cocaine is a small issue compared to the fact that you don’t want to live. I’m getting aid, but they’re unable to help me in any meaningful way. I have an incurable disease. I’m not sure I want to go on living at this point. If you’re not happy, all the money in the world, fame, and glory in the world mean nothing. Psychiatrists are helping me.
I’ve been diagnosed with a kind of bipolar disorder, they say. I’m a manic depressive. I’m not sure I want to get out of bed at all. Every day, I live in fear of my own demise. In light of my three children and wonderful wife, isn’t it a terrible thing to say? But I’m done with living. And if I had the option to end my own life – even if I wasn’t a Christian – I would do it in a heartbeat. I only hope someone kills me before I take my own life…. If I don’t repent, I’ll be damned for all time. Every day from Monday through Sunday, I’ve been drinking and doing cocaine. There is no way I can cope with that and the only way I can is to get drunk out of my head.”
