Red Wedding Even the Vows Were in a Made-up Language at My Friend’s Game of Thrones-themed Wedding, So I Declined to Go.

One person has now revealed how they turned down the invitation to a friend’s Game of Thrones-themed wedding because even the vows would be in one of Martin’s invented languages.

After going off on a rant about attending a friend’s impending wedding, a Reddit post garnered a lot of attention.

According to FluffyStrain6713, “Lexa” was soon to wed and both she and her future husband were avid Game of Thrones viewers, having seen the series more than five times.

She added that their house is furnished with show-themed trinkets and ornaments.

The poster stated, “Lexa and her fiancé decided to have a game of thrones-themed wedding because they both love Game of Thrones.”

Although the invitee claimed they could tolerate the themed wedding and even understand it, there was a significant issue.

The majority of the wedding will be conducted in High Valyrian, which, for those who don’t know, is a fictional language from Game of Thrones. This is the only thing I can’t seem to support.

The article continued by mentioning that the wedding was a destination affair and that it was difficult to justify traveling great distances to attend a ceremony “that’s not even in a real language.”

The guest on the verge then posed a straightforward query: “Am I the A**x!??% if I don’t go?”

To make matters worse, the friend revealed that the couple had already been sending links to learn High Valyrian and that they expected the speeches and toasts at the reception to be made in the fictitious language.

More than 1,500 people commented on the post, which received more than 8,000 views on Reddit, and it was obvious that many of them were avid Game of Thrones fans or at least aware of the program.

Una said: “A wedding with a Game of Thrones theme wouldn’t make me feel secure. Who knows whether it will be red or purple.”

Another person said: “lol. What’s the point of playing the Rains of Castarmere if nobody does?”

One more joke: “Sadly, you might discover that the doors have been closed and locked. Hiding is the best option.”

For those who haven’t watched the hit series, House Stark members are massacred in the infamous Red Wedding scene after being imprisoned by the evil House Frey.

Another poster was thoughtful, saying, in part, “maybe they need a translator for the crowd instead of expecting them all to learn a new language. Fantasy-themed weddings are cool when done right.”

and concluded the comment with what appeared to be wise advice.

“Don’t go if it will be intolerable for you.”
