The president of Albania gave Dua Lipa citizenship in Tirana.

The Albanian-born British pop artist was lauded by the president for extending the country’s popularity abroad through her songs.

Dua Lipa, a British pop star of Albanian origin, has been awarded Albanian citizenship by the country’s president for her contribution to promoting Albanians abroad via her music.

President Bajram Begaj announced on Sunday that Lipa was awarded Albanian citizenship prior to the 110th anniversary of Albania’s independence from the Ottoman Empire. Begaj stated that he felt it an honor to do so, given that Lipa has made Albanians famous worldwide.

Before taking her citizenship oath at Tirana city hall, Lipa said, “I will also be a documented Albanian.”

Lipa was born in London in 1995 to Albanian immigrants from Kosovo, Anesa, and Dukagjin Lipa.

Who Is Dua Lipa’s Boyfriend? Dua Lipa may be dating Trevor Noah.

Lipa, who began singing at age five, was influenced musically by her father, a former rock band vocalist, and guitarist. She began uploading her songs on YouTube when she was 14 years old. In 2017, her debut studio album was published. She received the Grammy for a best new artist in 2019.

Together with her father, she co-founded the Sunny Hill Foundation in 2016 in order to generate cash through yearly performances conducted in her home country of Kosovo to assist those in financial need.

“It is an unbelievable thrill to be surrounded by such acceptance, kindness, and everything else,” Lipa remarked. The artist was then photographed, fingerprinted, and had to sign an application for an identification card and passport.

On Monday, Lipa will conclude her yearly performance tour in Tirana’s Skanderbeg Square to celebrate Independence Day.
