Michael Venus of New Zealand and his German partner Tim Puetz stunned the world’s top-ranked pair to win the ATP 500 tournament in Dubai.
The fourth seeds defeated No. 1 seeds Mate Pavic and Nikola Mektic in an hour and 56 minutes on Sunday (NZ time), winning 6-3 6-7 (3) 16-14.
Venus and Puetz have now won three ATP doubles titles together since joining forces after the French Open last year, and this is world No 14 Venus’ 17th ATP title.
He and Puetz will move up to seventh in the race for the top eight spots in the ATP Finals in Turin in November.
