True Detective is an American anthology crime drama television series created and produced by Nic Pizzolatto. Each season of the show is designed as a standalone narrative, with fresh cast ensembles and different sets of characters and places.

True Detective Season 4 Release Date
Assuming that pre-production, principal filming, post-production, and marketing rollout do not exceed two years and 18 months, we can estimate that True Detective Season 4 will be released in late 2023 or early to mid-2024.
The fourth season, like the prior three, is expected to include eight episodes. However, the creators have yet to reveal any other information.

The following is the official synopsis for HBO’s True Detective: Night Country:
“The six men who run the Tsalal Arctic Research Station in Ennis, Alaska, depart without a trace when the long winter night falls. To solve the tragedy, Detectives Liz Danvers and Evangeline Navarro will have to confront their own darkness and delve into the frightening realities hidden beneath the perpetual ice.”
True Detective Season 4 Cast: Who Will Appear?
Season four of the crime drama anthology, which is currently in pre-production, has added John Hawkes (Deadwood, Winter’s Bone), Christopher Eccleston (Doctor Who, The Leftovers), Fiona Shaw (Killing Eve, Harry Potter franchise), Finn Bennett (Domina, The Nevers), and Anna Lambe (Three Pines, Trickster) to the cast.
The upcoming season, Night Country, will be led by Jodie Foster and Kali Reis, as previously reported. True Detective was the last broadcast in 2019.

The upcoming season will have a fresh cast, setting, and story, as well as a creative overhaul behind the camera.
Issa López is the showrunner, writer, director, and exec producer, with Barry Jenkins, Adele Romanski, and Mark Ceryak for PASTEL; Mari Jo Winkler; Chris Mundy; writer Alan Page Arriaga; Anonymous Content; Matthew McConaughey; Woody Harrelson; Cary Joji Fukunaga; and Nic Pizzolatto also exec producing.
Producers include Princess Daazhraii Johnson, Cathy Tagnak Rexford, and Sam Breckman.
True Detective aired to considerable acclaim in 2014, with a story by Pizzolatto, starring McConaughey and Harrelson, and directed by Fukunaga. They are still executive producers.

The following are new character descriptions: Hawkes portrays Hank Prior, a police officer with old grudges hidden beneath a quiet surface; Eccleston portrays Ted Corsaro, the regional Chief of Police and a political animal with a long history tying him to Liz Danvers (Foster); Shaw portrays Rose Aguineau, a survivalist with a past full of secrets; Bennett portrays Peter Prior, Liz Danvers’ protégé and apprentice — both for better or worse; and Lambe portrays Kayla Male.
